About

We are an active congregation, committed to sharing the “Good News of Christ,” both inside and outside our church walls.

A place where you and your family can experience the love and nurture of a caring community of faith and the power of our resurrected Lord. Come share the excitement of worship and the empowerment for service.

 Our hope is that you will find here a Christian community of integrity that will challenge you and encourage you in your spiritual journey. We offer many opportunities for congregational involvement and community service. We invite you to be a part of our congregation!

Our Mission Statement

"To witness to Jesus Christ in the world, and to follow His teachings through acts of compassion, justice, worship, and devotion under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.”— The General Rule of Discipleship

Our Beliefs

We believe in one living and true God, who has revealed Himself in three ways: as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, born of the virgin Mary, truly God and truly man, who for us and for our salvation came down from heaven. He atoned for the sins of all believers when He died on the cross. Three days later, God raised Him from the dead. Now He lives and reigns with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. We believe the only sure way of salvation is to confess one’s sin and to trust in Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord. We believe one day Jesus will return to earth in triumph. He will receive all believers into His eternal Kingdom and will judge the unrighteous. We believe the Bible was inspired by God and contains all things necessary for salvation. When read under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Bible is our true rule and guide for faith and practice.

Welcoming Statement

We at Vicksburg United Methodist Church are an inclusive and welcoming Christian community, faithfully committed to ministries of compassion, justice, diversity, and equality. Our Vision:

To lovingly share the Good News of God’s grace and love in the name of Jesus Christ, and in the spirit of Christ’s life and teachings;

To nourish, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the spiritual needs of our members, neighbors in our diverse community, and the world around us;

To communally provide a place of safe refuge and sanctuary for all ages, allowing for participation in diverse worship experiences, Christian education, and discipleship;

To faithfully practice the pursuit of peace, social justice, and environmental stewardship in our world; and

To joyfully encourage full participation in the life of the Church by children and those of all ages, regardless of color, gender, national origin, physical or mental ability, race, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status.

If you are a new Christian, there are some "first steps" to take to begin your new life in Christ on solid ground

Membership Classes/Membership Inquiries: Are you interested in learning more about United Methodism, or becoming a member of VUMC? Pastor Greg leads participants through a discussion of United Methodism; who we are and what we believe. This group is designed to help you get acclimated to the basics of the Christian life: how to navigate the Bible, basic prayer principles, church attendance and Christian fellowship. The class meets 4-5 times during the year (usually a 4 week class). You DO NOT have to be a new member... all current members are welcome to join to learn more and have questions answered!
